Lá Thư Thứ Nhất, Những Ngày Đầu Tiên

Dear all,

I pray that everyone is doing fine.  Tomorrow, I am going to remote places with S. Violeta.  We won’t be back until Sat. night.  I would like to send all of you some pictures that I took when we went to Chipok.  They do not speak Spanish. They speak Kekchi (?).  There is only one Priest who speaks Kekchi, Fr. Christopher, OP from Switzerland. Therefore, he and S. Violeta provided a service (a sacrament of confession) for them.  It was a very interesting service because it included their culture in the service.  You can see picture 0126, a man pulled the ears of a woman.  He said:  “do not commit your sins again.”  He is not a Priest.  He was chosen to do it.  You can see their pastoral center – an old building with a few branches, a tabernacle, and a statue of Mary, Joseph, and Jesus.  We felt like burning around 0930 and we actually “burned” around 1130, but every single one stayed for the service!!!  Our group included Fr. Christopher, S. Violeta, the CCD group from here and myself. That is my chicken soup bowl with tortillas.  There was no spoon or fork, so I used my natural chopsticks that God created for me to eat with.

At this point, I was told that I would be drinking river water, either no bath or bath with river water.  I will use the pills to disinfect my water for drinking. I am kind of nervous because I have never drunk water from river before.  When my family escaped, we drank ocean water, not river water!!!  Bye now. I am going to prepare for tomorrow trip.

Thank you very much for your prayers.

With lot of love and prayers.

Phuong Linh, OP
